'Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile' is an upcoming American live-action/animated musical comedy film directed by Will Speck and Josh Gordon from a screenplay by William Davies. It is an adaptation of the children's story of the same name by Bernard Waber. The film stars Shawn Mendes as the titular character alongside Javier Bardem, Constance Wu, Winslow Fegley, Scoot McNairy, and Brett Gelman. It is scheduled to be released in the United States on October 7, 2022, by Columbia Pictures via Sony Pictures Releasing.

Premise



When the Primm family moves to New York City, their young son, Josh, struggles to adapt to his new surroundings. All of that changes when he discovers Lyle, a singing Saltwater crocodile living in the attic of his new home. The two become fast friends, but when Lyle's existence is threatened by evil neighbor Mr. Grumps, the Primms must band together with Lyle's charismatic owner, Hector P. Valenti, to show the world that family can come from the most unexpected places.

Production



'Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile' is the feature film adaptation of the children's story of the same name by Bernard Waber. It was previously adapted as an animated HBO special, which was also a musical. It was announced in May 2021 with filmmaking duo Will Speck and Josh Gordon attached to direct from a screenplay by William Davies for Sony Pictures. Filming took place in New York City in September 2021. Notable filming locations include 85th Street, 86th Street, Astor Place and Bowery station, and Broadway, between 45th Street and 46th Street. Original songs for the film were written by executive producers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul along with Ari Afsar, Emily Gardner Xu Hall, Mark Sonnenblick, and Joriah Kwam. Matthew Margeson composed the musical score. Visual effects were handled by Framestore, Method, OPSIS, and Day for Nite.

Release



The film is scheduled to be released in theaters by Sony Pictures Releasing on October 7, 2022. It was originally going to be released on July 22, 2022, but in September 2021, the film was postponed to November 18, 2022. In April 2022, the film was brought forward to its October 7 date, taking over the release date of 'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse'.
