'Man of Will' is a 2017 South Korean drama film directed by Lee Won-tae, starring Cho Jin-woong and Song Seung-heon. The film was released on October 19, 2017.

Plot



In 1890s, a young man named Kim Chang-soo is sent to prison for his role in the murder of a Japanese man who took part in Empress Myeongseong's assassination. While behind bars, Kim sees that the prisoners are impoverished and uneducated and he finds out most are wrongly convicted. He begins to teach them letters so that they could clear their false charges. He gradually becomes the hope in the prison. However one day, Kim and his fellows get assigned to a large Japanese construction site where nothing but the ordeal worse than death is waiting.

Production



The film is the debut of director Lee Won-tae, who wrote the 2015 period film 'The Magician' and produced the 2011 horror romantic-comedy 'Spellbound'.

Principal photography began on October 31, 2016. Filming concluded on 31 January 2017.

Release and reception



A press conference was held on September 12, 2017 at the CGV Apgujeong theater in Seoul. It was attended by the main cast. The film was released in local cinemas on October 19, 2017.

On its opening weekend the film came in third at the local box office, selling 201,279 tickets and earned , increasing the total ticket sales to 260,189 and in revenue over four days.
