'Anthahpuram' is a 1998 Indian Telugu-language action drama film, written and directed by Krishna Vamsi, and produced by P. Kiran under the Anandi Art Creations banner. The film stars Jagapathi Babu, Soundarya, Prakash Raj, Sai Kumar and Saradha, with music composed by Ilaiyaraaja. Inspired from 1991 American film 'Not Without My Daughter' (1991), the plot revolves around a newly-married NRI woman finding herself in a traditionally feudal family in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh.

The film has won nine Nandi Awards and three Filmfare Awards South including Best Film  Telugu. The film was later remade in 1999 in Tamil with the same name with Parthiban replacing Jagapathi Babu and it was remade in Hindi as 'Shakti: The Power' (2003).

Plot



The film begins in Mauritius where Bhanumati / Bhanu a plucky naughty girl resides with her uncle Bobby. Prakash an orphan is acquainted with Bhanu, they couple up and are shortly blessed with a baby boy Raja. Once, Prakash hears that act of violence took place in his hometown Rayalaseema. Forthwith, with angst, Prakash tries to contact them on note his mother but fails. So, he rushes to India along with his wife & kid when Bhanu gazes that Prakash has hidden his true identity. Indeed, Prakash belongs to an extremely feudal society, his father Narasimha is a powerful factionist and at the forefront of the area. Since Prakash cannot bear the savagery and rivalry in the community, he migrated to Mauritius. Listening to it, Bhanu comprehends the situation.

As soon as, the pair lands the foes of Narasimha onslaughts on Prakash. On the verge of slaying him Narasimhas aides counterattack and rescues them. Next, they are at home where Bhanu is extremely awkward and frightened seeing the violent rustic culture of Narasimha & his men. Moreover, she hinders Narasimhas nearness toward the kid. The solitary that Bhanu admires is her mother-in-law who showers her utmost affection to Prakash & family. After a while, Prakash decides to go back and hand over their passports to his bestie Inspector Chinna to make their travel arrangements.

Once, Narasimha has to attend a wedding ceremony but on certain grounds, Prakash moves instead. On the way, the antagonists' attack in which tragically, Prakash dies. Learning it, Bhanu breaks into a cold sweat and quickly packs up. However, she drops her intention at the request of her mother-in-law until the completion of Prakashs funeral. Following this, Narasimha refuses to give up the child as he needs an heir to take a vendetta against his sons death. Bhanu is distraught, protests, and makes several attempts to skip hence she is prisoned. Parallelly, Sarai Veeraraju a piety thief does various crimes to achieve his life ambition i.e., betake him to Dubai. Besides, Bhanu absconds with the aid of her mother-in-law collecting their passports & tickets from Chinna. Narasimhas deputies chase her and she is safeguarded by Veeraraju.

At that point, Bhanu offers Veeraraju the amount required to set foot in Dubai and pleads with him help her to board a train to Hyderabad. Right now, Veeraraju plans a sketch when Narasimhas acolytes and contenders ambush them. Anyhow, Veeraraju accomplishes the task and dies amid violence whilst trying to protect Bhanu & her son. Meanwhile, Narasimha himself proceeds to slaughter Bhanu when his wife bars and rejoinders which reforms him. At last, Narasimha continues to pursue Bhanu till the airport but allows her & the child to leave, and after emotional interaction, he seeks an apology. Finally, the movie with ends Bhanu forgiving Narasimha and Raja saying goodbye to his grandfather.
