'The Jew' (Portuguese: 'O Judeu') is a 1996 Brazilian-Portuguese co-production film directed by Jom Tob Azulay with Filipe Pinheiro in the title role, Dina Sfat, and Mrio Viegas as the king. It tells the story of the writer Antnio Jos da Silva, nicknamed "the Jew", burned at the stake during the reign of King Joo V of Portugal in 1739.Elizabeth Gackstetter Nichols Ph.D., Timothy R. Other Brazilian filmmakers who deal with Jewish themes include Jayme Monjardim, who directed Olga (2004); Joo Batista de Andrade, director of Vlado Trinta Anos Depois [Vlado Thirty Years Later, 2005]; and Cao Hamburger, whose O Ano em que Meus Pais Saram de Frias [The Year My Parents Went on Vacation, 2006] is a coming-of-age story about Mauro, whose parents are forced to flee the country.
