'Udhaar Ki Zindagi' is a 1994 Indian Hindi-language drama film, produced by Rajesh Mishra, S.S. Misra under the Asht Murti Film Combines banner and directed by K. V. Raju. It stars Jeetendra, Moushumi Chatterjee and Kajol and music composed by AnandMilind. This was Kajol's first author-backed role, which was critically acclaimed. The movie is a remake of 1991 Telugu movie 'Seetharamayya Gari Manavaralu' which the director of this movie, K.V. Raju, had earlier remade in Kannada in 1992 as 'Belli Modagalu'.
Plot
The film begins in a village near the river Ganga where Seetaram is a highly honorable whose word is an ordinance in that region. He leads a delightful life with his ideal wife Janki, son Dr. Vasu Dev / Vasu, and two daughters Indu & Gauri. Both father & son share the beyond relation as friends. Later, a rift arises between them by Vasu denying the alliance fixed by Seetaram and knitting his beau Suman. Hence, for the first time, Seetaram has to bow his head down. So, he shows his resentment by keeping Vasu at bay without communicating. Distressed Vasu quits the house with a promise to come back whenever he forgives him. After 20 years, Vasu's daughter Seeta arrives from the states. Initially, Seetaram grudges her but internally sweethearts her. Seeta is acquainted with her cousin Kaasi and they love silently. Gradually, she wins the hearts of everyone including Seetaram. Moreover, with her wit resolves family disputes of Seetaram. During that time, Dr. Vivek, Vasu's friend lands when it is revealed that Seeta has concealed the death of her parents because Seetaram is unable to sustain it. Being cognizant of the status quo, Vivek conveys that Vasu & Suman are returning home shortly. At the outdoor Vivek hands over the ashes of her father to Seeta. Kaasi overhears it and secretly aids her. Meanwhile, the family decides to perform his 60th birthday 'Sashtipurthi' of Seetaram and he is keenly waiting for Vasu. Devastated, Seeta attempts suicide when Kaasi saves her and boasts of her courage. Here, Seetaram is perturbed by Vasu's absence, but Kaasi & Seeta calms him down and grandly celebrate the function. Just after tragically, Janki dies when Seetaram enrages as Vasu does not attend her funeral. Out of the pain, he revolts on Seeta and expels her. Now, Kaasi divulges the actuality to Seetaram by showing Seeta's diary in which he spots his son's last wish to immerse his ashes in the river Ganga by his father. He also learns that Seeta is going to kill herself along with the ashes. Knowing it, Seetaram collapses but quickly retrieves, rushes, and rescues Seeta. At last, Seeta fulfills her father's wish. Finally, the movie ends on a happy note proclaiming that 'Human relationships & attachments never end'.

Production
'Udhaar Ki Zindagi' was an official remake of the Telugu-language drama film 'Seetharamaiah Gari Manavaralu' (1991), which starring Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Meena and Rohini Hattangadi. It was previously titled 'Kaagaz Ki Gudia'. According to 'Deccan Herald' journalist Piali Banerjee, the film was shot in Hyderabad.
Soundtrack
AnandMilind composed the soundtrack. The songs were authored by Sameer. "Thodi Hansi Hain" was widely appreciated for its lyrics.
