'Khandaan' is a 1979 Indian Hindi-language drama film, produced by Sibte Hassan Rizvi under the New World Enterprises banner and directed by Anil Ganguly. It stars Jeetendra, Sulakshana Pandit, Bindiya Goswami and music composed by Khayyam. This film is remade in Telugu as 'Jeevitha Ratnam' (1981).

Plot



The film begins with a fine family its paterfamilias Gauri Shankar works as a clerk in a private firm. He lives with his wife Savitri and two sons Vikas & Ravi. Vikas married virago, Nanda. Ravi is impish, leads an active life, and falls for a girl Ush. Meanwhile, Vikas acquires a job and he has to deposit the amount on security. Gauri Shankar bends over backward but fails. Hence, he is compelled to heist the amount from his office. But he is caught by Ravi, thus, to protect his father he takes the blame. Afterward, Gauri Shankar passes away affirming the truth to Savitri but she mutes. Besides, Vikas gains the job and quits the house leaving his mother. Time passes, and Ravi returns, when everyone looks at him as wrong'un. Moreover, he learns about the marriage of Usha and Vikas falsifies him that their mother is charged with him discarding Ravi. Devastated Ravi leaves for the city where he rescues a girl named Sandhya daughter of a millionaire Seth Dharmdas. He allots him with a job, whereby, Sandhya loves him which he politely refuses. Within a short time, Ravi acquires the credence of Dharmdas. In tandem, Usha absconds from the wedding and moves in search of Ravi. Meanwhile, knowing that Ravi is comforting his mother with money lavish Vikas picks her up where she is mortified, and blighted Savitri gets out. Concurrently, Usha spots Ravi with Sandhya and suspects which is resolved. Through her, Ravi is aware of his brothers betrayal. Immediately, he rushes and collapses witnessing his mother's piteous condition and flares up on Vikas when Savitri obstructs him. At last, Vikas & Nanda plead pardon from Savitri. Finally, the movie ends on a happy note with the marriage of Ravi & Usha.
