'Suntan' is a 1976 Hindi-language drama film, produced & directed by Mohan Segal on Delux Films banner. Starring Jeetendra, Rekha, Ashok Kumar and music composed by LaxmikantPyarelal. The film is a remake of Telugu film 'Tata Manavadu' (1972), starring S. V. Ranga Rao, Raja Babu, Vijaya Nirmala.

Plot



The film begins in a village where Dinanath (Ashok Kumar) a laborer determined to make his son Kishore (Satyendra Kapoor) a doctor and knit him with his friends daughter Shanu (Indrani Mukherjee). In the city, Kishore turns into a Cassanova one that cons and concocts himself as a toff by which he woos a rich girl Latha (Bindu) who detests the destitute. Once Kishore visits the home when he deceits Shanu as a result, she becomes pregnant. Immediately, Dinanath rushes for Kishore to tie him with Shanu. By the time, he weds Latha when Dinanath confronts Kishore when he is humiliated and expelled. However, Latha senses the truth when Kishore words to never affirm them as his parents. Grief-stricken & shattered Dinanath silently quit the village with the family. Thereafter, Shanu passes giving birth to baby girl Parvathi as well as Latha was also blessed with a son Ravi. Later awfully, Dinanath loses his eyesight in an accident. During the plight, his wife Thulasi (Nirupa Roy) joins as a maid at Kishores residence without knowledge. As soon as Kishore detects her presence he requests not to disclose his identity which she does. Meanwhile, Ravi gets closer to Thulasi and grows up under her care.

Years roll by, and Ravi (Jeetendra) a medico falls for his college mate Sarita (Rekha) daughter of Advocate Baldev Raj (Utpal Dutt). Eventually, Parvathi (again Indrani Mukherjee) becomes a nurse. Ravi is warmest towards Dinanaths family who shields and helps them at every level. Ongoing, once elderly and tired Thulasi collapses when she is battered by Latha. Spotting it, Ravi rebels on the family and goes to bring Dinanath until Latha makes Kishore throw Thulasi in the garage. After the arrival of Dinanath, Latha recognizes him and accuses Kishore but he persuades her. Right now, Ravi moves to a medical camp, and forthwith, Dinanath & Thulasi leaves the house. In return, Ravi runs for Thulasi, hitherto, she is on her deathbed when she divulges the reality and dies. Here, Kishore avoids her funeral too, so, Ravi performs her rites when devastated Dinanath meets with an accident announcing his death. At present, he decides to teach his parents a lesson and makes a play. Accordingly, he pretends to marry Sarita in the disguise of an illiterate villager and Baldev Raj as her father. Subsequently, they needle them as a counterattack which makes them realize their sins. Just the creditor lands to arrest Kishore & Latha for non-payment of loans. At last, as flabbergast, Dinanath backs alive by recouping his vision, clearing the debts, and revealing the actuality. Finally, the movie ends on a happy note with the marriage of Ravi & Sarita and they construct a memorial hospital in the name of Thulasi.
