'Kathanayakudu' is a 1969 Indian Telugu-language drama film, produced by K. Gopala Krishna under the banner Gopala Krishna Productions and directed by K. Hemambaradhara Rao. It stars N. T. Rama Rao and Jayalalithaa, with music composed by T. V. Raju. The film was remade in Tamil as 'Nam Naadu' (1969), and in Hindi as 'Apna Desh' (1972). The film was recorded as a blockbuster at the box office.The film won two Nandi Awards.

Plot



The film begins in a town, downtrodden by a vitriolic Dayanandam (Nagabhushanam) with his right-hand men Satya Murthy (Mikkilineni) and Appadu (Allu Ramalingaiah) as well-respected citizens in the society. Saradhi (N.T. Rama Rao) spirited youngster who stands for societal wellbeing and always reprisals these criminalities. This always creates a rift between Saradhi & his elder brother Srinivasa Rao (Dhulipala) an upright and trustworthy employee of Dayanandam. Once, Saradhi is acquainted & attracted to the righteousness of fruit seller Jaya (Jaya Lalitha) and falls for her. Here, Saradhi becomes a bar to trio frequently, midway, a fissure also rises in the brothers which make Saradhi quit the house. Now, he takes shelter at Jayas labor colony where Saradhi allies them and strives for their welfare. Meanwhile, municipal elections heralded in which Saradhi triumphs as Chair Person against Dayanandam. Afterward, he thwarts their offenses and they do all they can to concede Saradhi but fails. Moreover, Saradhi issued a show-cause notice to the trio to reimburse a trust amount swindled by them. At this juncture, Dayanandam seeks to double-cross. Being cognizant of his guilefulness, Srinivasa Rao hideouts the trust but he is seized. Forthwith, Srinivasa Rao is divulged as a wrongdoer, accordingly, Saradhi is also downthrown from the power. Enraged Saradhi onslaughts on them when he is ruthlessly knocked out. During that plight, with the aid of Jaya Saradhi brings out the barbaric shade of the baddies and frees his brother in various forms of disguise. Finally, the movie ends on a happy note with the marriage of Saradhi & Jaya.
