'Suhaag Raat' is a 1968 Hindi-language drama film, produced and directed by R. Bhattacharya under the A.J. Pictures banner. It stars Jeetendra and Rajshree , with music composed by Kalyanji Anandji.

Plot



Lieutenant Jeetendra / Jeet (Jeetendra) loves a charming girl Rajjo (Rajshree). Just before their wedding, the Indian army declares an emergency. So, Jeet pauses and moves to the battlefield following his departure the entire town is smashed in aerial bombardment. In which Rajjo loses her family, further, collapses knowing the death news of Jeet, and re-locates to her uncles residence. Here Jeet returns, despaired due to quandary, and turns into a wanderer. During that time, a wise lady Rani Saheba (Sulochana Latkar) shelters him and appoints him as her manager. Rani Saheba is always perturbed because of her debauchery son Thakur Uday Singh (Prakash) when Jeet suggests an idea to perform his espousal. On the day of the wedding, Jeet off guards to see Rajjo as the bride but they maintain silence. The same night, on the compellation of his friend Uday, visits the court area where he brawls with Nawab Ladan and kills him. Freighted Uday tries to abscond and jumps into a river when everyone assumes him as dead. Suddenly, one-night Uday meets Rajjo consummates with her, and makes a promise that never reveals his existence. As a result, Rajjo has to pay a huge price when she becomes pregnant. Thereupon, everyone denounces her, and Jeet is accused of the deed aware of their love affair. Both of them are badly humiliated and necked out. During that plight, Jeet accommodates Rajjo in a safe place and looks after her without divulging her identity. Rajjo gives birth to a baby boy, accordingly to time chagrins on her also increase. Eventually, Uday shadows his wife & son in guise. Once, spotting the close intimacy of Uday & Rajjo villagers revolts when learning the reality Jeet guards him and seriously injured. Witnessing it, Uday repents, affirms the actuality, and surrenders to the police. At last, Jeet dies and Uday is acquitted with the short-term penalty. Finally, the movie ends with Uday & Rajjo paying their gratitude to Jeet.
