'Neethikkupin Paasam' is a 1963 Indian Tamil-language legal drama film, directed by M. A. Thirumugam. The film stars M. G. Ramachandran, B. Saroja Devi and M. R. Radha. The film, produced by Sandow M. M. A. Chinnappa Thevar, had musical score by K. V. Mahadevan and was released on 15 August 1963. The film was a super hit at the box office and ran for more than 100 days. The film was remade in Telugu as 'Thandri Kodukula Challenge'.

Plot



Gopal is an honest lawyer who holds law and order above family and emotions. He once saves Sivasamy from a false petition filed against him by Muniyandi by without charging fees and being himself as an eye witness.He meets a simple village girl named Gowri and falls in love with her. Due to this he rejects his cousins Jaya and Prema. Due to this Jaya dies by jumping from the upstairs. After this incident, Gopal's father decides that Gopal's marriage will be done based on his wishes but his mother oppose it.

In due time Gopal and Gowri get separated and reunited again. But trouble brews in the form of Muthayya, Gowri's uncle who sets his wicked eyes on her. Gowri's father Sivasamy first accepted his proposal but after he rejects it when learns of Gopal and Gowri's affair. He also informs to Gopal's parents about this to which his father accepts but his mother rejects. She also goes to Gowri's house and threatens Gowri.

Meanwhile Muthayya joins hands with Muniyandi, Sivasamy's rival to get his consent for marrying Gowri. Sivasamy opposes it and to marry Gowri, Muthayya murders Sivasamy with the help of Muniyandi. Gopal's mother, who is on the way to her home is framed for the murder. This leads to the arrest of Gopal's mother by her husband, who also files the case against her.

Gopal's brother, Ramu is handling the case as a prosecutor due to their father's intentions. Only Gopal stands for his mother in the situation and he argues for her against his own father and brother in the court. After some hearings in the court, Gopal and Gowri discovers that Muthayya is the real murderer by a CID officer who is disguised as a blind beggar. They also find that Muthayya and Muniyandi are doing illegal business. With the help of police, Gopal produces them in the court.

After some arguments between Gopal and Ramu, the CID officer gives eye witness. The judge gives the judgment as follows: Since Muthayya and Muniyandi are the real culprits, they are sentenced to imprisonment and Gopal's mother is released. Since they are involved in illegal business, they are punished for that too. The judge also praised Gopal's family for serving the duty sincerely and mentions them as the family with a policy law first, affection next. At last the family unites and Gopal marries Gowri.

Release and reception



'Neethikkupin Paasam' was released on 15 August 1963, and distributed by Emgeeyar Pictures. 'Kumudam' gave the film a negative review, playing on its title by saying " " ('Neethikkupin Paasam' is bad in the latter half). Similar comments were made by Kanthan of 'Kalki'. T. M. Ramachandran of 'Sport and Pastime', however, reviewed the film more positively, praising the performances of Ramachandran and Saroja Devi.
