'Majrim' ( ) is a 1958's Hindi suspense film directed by O P Rahlan, starring Shammi Kapoor, Ragini and Shobha Khote. It revolves around a thief, who disguise as a play writer to get away from his criminal life and live as a gentleman.

It is a black and white film. It was remade as Bandhe Haath in 1973, Amitabh Bachchan reprised the role played by Shammi Kapoor.

Plot



Shankar (Shammi Kapoor) is a thief, while running from police enters in a theatre. At that place the lead dancer Uma Devi (Ragini) mis- identify him as their new play writer Anand whom they was expecting to arrive that day. Shankar did not tells them that he is not Anand and pretend to be Ananda. Real Anand's letter arrive to the theatre owner, where he inform that he is unwell and can not come to theatre. Upon hearing about letter Shankar lies that he became healthy and decided to come. Theatre owner and staff thinks that letter arrived late and Anand arrived early. He takes the letter from owner. Shankar began feeling love about Uma Devi.

Shankar's elderly mentor was admitted in a hospital. Shankar meets him, the later tells him his next stealing plan. But Shankar refuses and express that he want to live life of a gentleman and he will not do stealing. His mentor gets angry on him. At the night he decided to perform stealing alone. He becomes successful but fall from high building and dies. Shankar came to know about this. He reads the adress of Anand on letter and goes to his house. Anand was very unwell, when Shankar sees his face he gets suprise that Anand is his Doppelgnger. Upon hearing from Anand he is alone in this world, he thinks to kill him and assume his identity as a play writer but his mind feels back and forth. He finally decided to help Anad, he summon a medic but Anad did not survive. Shankar assume his identity.

Shankar falls in love with Uma Devi, few days later a police officer sees him and identify him but Shankar tells him that he is a play writer, he investigate but did not comes in conclusion. Shankar gives a expensive ring to Uma, which a stolen from a wealthy man. The police officer sees that ring, investigate and find out that, the ring belong to Seth Laxminarayan. Seth identity ring with police. Police tells the truth or Shankar to Uma. Police try to capture Shankar but he runs away. At the end upon Uma Devi's request he handover himself to police.

'Majrim' was directed by Ralhan and produced by FC Mehra. Screenplay was written by OP Ralhan. Majrooh Sultanpuri was music director. Geeta Dutt, Asha Bhosle lent their voice for songs.
