'Marcus Garland' is a 1925 race film directed, written, produced and distributed by Oscar Micheaux. The film offers a harsh parody on the rise and fall of Marcus Garvey, the Black nationalist and pan-Africanist leader.[Smith, Valerie, [https://books.google.com/books?id=1B4ui7EoylwC&pg=PA50&lpg=PA50&dq=%22marcus+garland%22+silent+era&source=bl&ots=pv-bizIUQN&sig=Im5NNNHGSNIDvmEjZAx6AY2J1t8&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=2&ct=result 'Representing Blackness: Issues in Film and Video'], Rutgers University Press, 1997, .] Few details on the films production survive, and some sources place its release in 1928.[Green, J. No print of the film is known to exist and it is presumed to be a lost film.[Gevinson, Alan, [https://books.google.com/books?id=bsoUXGZSxZcC&pg=PA639&lpg=PA639&dq=%22marcus+garland%22+%22within+our+gates%22&source=bl&ots=x_5gcbAZYg&sig=Jh4xXpmxfDUa0lijPAk-LI5JLaE&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=3&ct=result 'Within Our Gates: Ethnicity in American Feature Films, 1911-1960'], University of California Press, 1997, , p. 639.]
