It was released on March 20, 2020, alongside the rest of its parent album as the sixth track. The Weeknd co-wrote and produce the song along with Carlo Montagnese and Leland Tyler Wayne. Only Mike McTaggart was credited for the songwriting. LyricsThe lyrics of the song depicts Abel spilling the beans regarding his secret relationship with his girl. He worries about all of the men who attempt to meddle in between them. He eventually chalks up the strifes of their relationship to the fast-paced environment of Los Angeles and concludes that the couple must get out of the city for them to live a good life together. Also he mentions of his assurance that he will not budge with all of the women in LA. Critical receptionAccording to the 'Billboard', "Escape from LA" was ranked the fourteenth and the least best song from the 'After Hours' album as it discusses the ins and outs of his current relationship, which he attributes to their personal lives and the fast-and-loose Los Angeles lifestyle. The repetitiveness of the bridge and albeit descriptive do not do much to heighten the lethargy of the track. Commercial performanceFollowing the releasing of its parent album, "Escape from LA" charted at number 39 on the US 'Billboard' Hot 100 dated April 4, 2020. It was the tenth-highest charting track from 'After Hours'. Also, it charted at number 44, 40, 88, 48, 88, 49, 90 and 21 on the Canadian Hot 100, Estonia, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Sweden and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, respectively.
