Brendan Kelly of the 'Montreal Gazette' reviewed the film positively, writing that "You could call writer-director Patrick Gazs debut feature a Qubcois 'Taxi Driver' but that would be misleading. Like the classic 1976 Martin Scorsese film, Gazs Ceci nest pas un polar which translates as This Is Not a Thriller is a drama focusing on a troubled cabbie driving the mean streets of a North American city. But thats where the comparison ends." He further singled out Dupuis's performance in the film as one of the strongest of his career.[
