'Pelli Pandiri' ( 'Wedding Pandal') is a 1997 Telugu-language drama film directed by Kodi Ramakrishna. It stars Jagapati Babu, Raasi, Prithiveeraj with music composed by Vandemataram Srinivas. It was produced by G. Aswartha Narayana Babu, M. C. Shekar and S. Ramesh Babu under the SRS Art Movies banner. 'Pelli Pandiri' is a remake of the Kannada film 'Anuraga Sangama' (1995), which itself was inspired by the Charlie Chaplin-starrer 'City Lights' (1931).

Plot



The film begins with Prakash stubborn kid son of millionaire Notla Raghunath Chowdary. He is friendly with Govind that performs and sells Ektara before his school without a status barrier. One day, Raghunath Chowdary makes an accident in which Govinds mother dies and he becomes alone. Thus, Prakash brings Govind to his house, does not care even to die and coercive his parents to accept him. Years roll by, and the congeniality of the besties also grows along with them. However, Prakashs parents still envy Govind. Afterward, Prakash moves abroad for higher education when Raghunath Chowdary intrigues to discard Govind. Taking it into account, he quits the house and is sheltered by an old watchman of a group of apartments where Govind turns an auxiliary to the residents.

Over that period, he is acquainted with a blind girl Kasthuri whom he consorts and loves. Kasthuris father is an alcoholic who dies in an accident entrusting Kasthuri to Govind. Now he determines to retrieve Kasthuris eyesight and contacts a famous eye specialist Dr. Prabhavathi. She assures the success for which they have to undergo expensive surgery. Parallelly as an anecdote, Bhadram the secretary of the apartments is hounded by his nephew Goldman for the swindling of his uncle. Once, he intoxicates him to grab his wealth. Thereupon, Govind debts the pay of operation from him. Following his return, Bhadram spots his riches are disappeared. Exploiting it, he robs the jewelry of association, incriminates Govind, and is sentenced. Meanwhile, Kasthuri recoups her vision and is distressed for Govind when she is accommodated by Prabhavathi. In the prison, Govind gets close to Jailor Rama Rao the divorced husband of Prabhavathi, and attempts to reunite the couple.

Time being, Prakash returns and enrages his parents for kicking off Govind. At a point, he views Kasthuri at his aunt Prabhavathis residence and falls for her. He also makes his parents unwillingly accept the match. Initially, Kasthuri refuses his proposal but she receives it when Prakash attempts suicide and also by the influence of Prabhavathi. Besides, Goldman proves Govind innocent and acquitted. Circumstantially, he encounters Prakash whom he bounces back. At present, Govind is glad to hear about Prakashs nuptial but is astounded to see Kasthuri as the bride. Since Kasthuri is unbeknownst of Govinds features, she fails to identify him. At this stage, Govind maintains silence as Kasthuri may discern him by voice. Moreover, he succeeds in fusing the Rama Rao couple in furtherance of this marriage and also convinces Prabhavathi to stay quiet.

During the time of the wedding, Kasthuri recognizes Govind through a photograph that they have taken prior. Immediately, Kasthuri revolts and questions Govind for his deed. Then, he foretells that he has only concern for her, not love. Overhearing it, Prakash asks Govind to take expletive on devout apparatus of wedlock that he does not have any feeling on Kasthuri which he does so. Anyhow, he backs up when Prakash asks to take an oath on him because he cannot tell a lie. Here, Govind states the eminence of their friendship and proclaims that he is ready to sacrifice anything for his friend. Finally, the movie ends on a happy note with Prakash pairing Govind & Kasthuri.
