'Mg' ('Magician') is a 1988 Czech film directed by Frantiek Vlil. The film is about Czech poet Karel Hynek Mcha. It is Vlil's last film. The film received mixed reviews and critics called it a reflection of Vlil's previous work.

Plot



Mcha goes to Litomice where he accepted position as a Notary. He plans to marry Lori who is getting prepared for the wedding. Mcha's brother Michal comes instead of him and announces that Mcha is dead. The film then switches to when Mcha and Lori met. Macha and Lori met in Kajetn's theatre. The film shows Mcha's and Lori's relationship. It also shows Mcha's meeting with ill girl Mrinka who is a fan of his poems. Mcha also hears that someone called Hynek killed his father in jealousy. It inspires Mcha to make his most famous poem, Mj. When Mj is released it is received negatively and Mcha needs to provide Lori who is pregnant and accepts position as a Notary in Litomice. He spends his free time at Rdobyce. One day there is a fire and Mcha helps but his organism succumbs illness and he dies.
