'Tohfa' is a 1984 Indian Hindi-language melodrama comedy film produced by D. Ramanaidu under the Suresh Productions banner and directed by K. Raghavendra Rao. It stars Jeetendra, Sridevi and Jaya Prada. The film upon its release was a massive box office success, grossing , becoming the highest-grossing Indian film of 1984.
The film's narrative follows siblings Janki and Lalita who both fall for Ram, their good friend. When Lalita learns that Janki loves Ram, she steps back and allows her sister to marry him. It was a remake of Raghavendra Rao's Telugu blockbuster' Devatha' (1982), with Sridevi and Jaya Prada reprising their roles.

Plot
The film begins in a village where siblings Janki & Lalitha idolize each other. Janki strives hard to mold Lalitha as well-educated with several sacrifices for which Lalitha deifies her. Janki is also admired by the entire village, especially, president Raghuveer Singh. Additionally, she oversees the household authority of a wealthy woman Parvati. Ram Babu, son of Parvati returns after completing his law and endears Janki as a good friend but she silently adores him. Here, Ram Babu & Lalitha fall in love and consummates before the wedding. Kamesh a hound and tear away keep an evil eye on Lalitha. In tandem, Parvati wants to knit Janki with Ram Babu. Knowing it, Lalitha decides to discard gratitude, so, she silently marries Kamesh. Being incognizant of it, Janki castigates and despises her. Accordingly, Ram Babu is also panicked but later realizes the actuality and divulges Raghuveer Singh. At that juncture, he advises Ram Babu to marry Janki to give significance to Lalithas sacrifice which he does so. Then, in a brawl, Kamesh kills a person and is penalized.
Years roll by, and Ram Babu becomes a leading criminal lawyer and lives delightfully with Janki but the couple is perturbed as childless. Fortuitously, he encounters Lalitha when he is surprised to see her as a single parent of a child Gopi whom he discovers as his own. However, Lalitha vows to be quiet. Right now, Ram Babu gets cordial towards Gopi while Janki also becomes pregnant. Eventually, Kamesh is released and torments Lalitha witnessing her as a mother. Moreover, he spoils the mindset of Janki by attributing illicit relations between Ram Babu & Lalitha. Hence, she berates and denounces her. The next, heinous Kamesh intends to fence Lalitha, so, she slaughters him. Ram Babu takes up the case when Janki's suspicion escalates and rebukes Lalitha. Thus, Raghuveer Singh affirms the actuality. Listening to it, she collapses and suffers out of labor. Meanwhile, Ram Babu acquits Lalitha and returns giving a send-off to her where he finds Janki in a serious condition. Immediately, Ram Babu gets back to them, until, Janki delivers a baby girl. At last, Janki pleads for pardon and entrusts the responsibility of her child to Lalitha. Finally, the movie ends with Janki leaving her breath uniting Ram Babu & Lalitha.

The song "Ek Aankh Maroon To" was renamed as "Bhankas" from the movie, Baaghi 3. The singers are sung by Dev Negi, Bappi Lahiri and Jonita Gandhi. The music is composed by Tanishk Bagchi.
Marketing and reception
Producer D. Rama Naidu employed huge billboards and cut outs for film's publicity before its release and managed to create considerable public interest. Upon its release, 'Tohfa' was immediately noticed for its item number "Pyar Ka Tohfa Tera" picturised on Jaya Prada and "Ek Ankh Marun To", picturised on Sridevi sung by Asha Bhonsle, both of which became chartbusters.

Legacy
The dialogue "Aaoo Lalita" used by Shakti Kapoor became popular and Kapoor named his restaurant after the dialogue in 2017.
