'Nagin' ( 'Female Serpent') is a 1976 Hindi-language horror film, produced and directed by Rajkumar Kohli under the Shankar Movies banner. It stars James H Sumi and Roseline Amen Zhimo in the titular role alongside an ensemble cast including Sunil Dutt, Feroz Khan, Jeetendra, Sanjay Khan, Rekha, Mumtaz, Vinod Mehra, Yogeeta Bali, Kabir Bedi, Anil Dhawan and its music was composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal. Despite being a fantasy type film, it was a blockbuster at the box office and the highest-grossing film of 1976. Following the success of the film, Reena Roy attained star status.

It was inspired by Franois Truffaut's French film 'The Bride Wore Black' which was based on Cornell Woolrich's novel of the same name. The film was later remade in Tamil with Sripriya playing Nagin in the film 'Neeya?'.

Plot



Prof Vijay makes research on snakes, according to a myth he believes that after a certain age, they take the human form. He plans a tour to a forest along with his friends Raj, Rajesh, Uday, Kiran, and Suraj. Ultimately, Vijay uncovers the mystery by finding shape-shifting serpents Nag male & Nagin female who are besotted. However, his friends heckle him, so Vijay aims to make it clear. On the full-moon day, when the snakes consummate all of them move inside the forest. At that point, unfortunately, Kiran shoots the male which worries Vijay because in such cases the female pledges to avenge. The Nagin identifies the homicides whose picture is captured in the eyes of Nag and as infuriated it starts her murder spree. Firstly, it eliminates Kiran which makes the remaining panic and back. Now Nagin targets Rajesh and kills him by transfiguring as his girlfriend Rita. In that dreadful situation, Vijay contacts a powerful snake charmer who provides hindrance with omnipotent lockets. Here, enraged Nagin challenges the charmer that he cannot rescue them. Thus, she detaches Raj's locket by creating a brawl with a goon and slays him. Suraj withdraws his locket as Nagin endangers his darling daughter Anu and he breathes his last leaving Anus responsibility to Vijay. In tandem, Raj is also slaughtered in the form of a beautiful Raj Kumari. At last, leftover Vijay is attacked by Nagin when she dies falling from the terrace. Finally, the movie ends with the Nagin reuniting with Nag in heaven.

"Tere Sang Pyar Main Nahin Todna" was featured in the soundtrack of the 2004 film 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.' The song was reused in Nagin's Tamil remake 'Neeya'.
