Wikipedia article

'The Pearlers' is a 1949 documentary film from director Lee Robinson about the pearling industry off the coast of Broome. Robinson later used a similar background for his feature 'King of the Coral Sea' (1954).[http://aso.gov.au/titles/features/king-of-the-coral-sea/notes/ Richard Kuipers, 'King of the Coral Sea'] at Australian Screen Online

The film was released to cinemas as a support feature, which was not common at the time,[http://wwwmcc.murdoch.edu.au/ReadingRoom/1.1/Robinson.html Lee Robinson interview with Albert Moran, Continuum: The Australian Journal of Media & Culture vol. 1 no 1 (1987)] and has since come to be regarded as a minor classic of Australian documentary filmmaking.[http://www.broomemovies.com.au/events/Big_Screen_BroomeWA_%202-4_Sep2011.pdf 'Touring Australian Films 2011' at Broome Movies]
