'The Emperor of Portugallia' (Swedish: 'Kejsarn av Portugallien') is a 1944 Swedish historical drama film directed by Gustaf Molander and starring Victor Sjstrm, Gunn Wllgren and Karl-Arne Holmsten.Steene p.879 Qvist & Von Bagh p.115 It was shot at the Rsunda Studios in Stockholm and on location in the city's Old Town and the province of Vrmland. The film's sets were designed by the art directors Nils Svenwall and Arne kermark. It is based on the 1914 novel of the same title by Selma Lagerlf, which had previously been adapted into the 1925 American silent film 'The Tower of Lies'.
