'Pureza' is a 1937 Portuguese-language novel by the Brazilian writer Jos Lins do Rego.Latin American writers Carlos A. Sol, Mara Isabel Abreu - 1989- Volume 2 - Page 912 0684185989 "Pureza (Purity, 1937; published in English as Pureza), which takes place in the bucolic setting of a small railway stop, celebrates the regenerative powers of nature," The novel has been translated into English and published twice as 'Pureza - A Novel of Brazil' translated Lucie Marion 1947, and again 'Pureza' 1968

The novel was immediately successful in Brazil and almost immediately was made into a film, 'Pureza' (1940).Brazilian Art 1976- Page 120 "One of these efforts was the filming of the novel, Purity, by Jose Lins do Rego. In the early forties, few story films were made, but this changed during the decade."
